Here is the Top 80s Songs

The 1980′s was a great decade for original, catchy music. Though there were thousands of amazing songs, I have selected a particular favorite from each year of that decade.

1980 Call Me (Blondie)
This song was not only the theme song for the movie American Gigolo, but became Blondie’s best selling single in the US and also topped the UK singles charts as well.

1981 Bette Davis Eyes (Kim Carnes)
The Kim Carnes version of Bette Davis Eyes became the Song of the Year and propelled her album, Mistaken Identity, to make millions of sales.

1982 Jack and Diane (John Cougar)
Recorded under the name John Cougar, this song became the greatest hit single for John Mellencamp.

1983 Billie Jean (Michael Jackson)
Found on Michael Jackson’s Thriller album, Billie Jean received two Grammy Awards and is his best selling song to date.

1984 Jump (Van Halen)
Featuring Eddie Van Halen’s famous guitar solo, this song was the group’s only song to reach the top position on the US Billboard Hot 100.

1985 Careless Whisper (Wham!)
This song catapulted Wham’s fame and reached the number one position in over twenty countries. Despite being a Wham! Song, it was sung by George Michael.

1986 Addicted to Love (Robert Palmer)
Found on the album, Riptide, this song is most remembered for its music video, featuring Robert Palmer and his sultry female “musicians”.

1987 Livin’ On A Prayer (Bon Jovi)
Featured on Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album, this song reached the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.

1988 Sweet Child O’ Mine (Guns N’ Roses)
This is the only Gun N’ Roses song to make it to the number one position on the US Billboard Hot 100.

1989 Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
This classic love song won the Song of the Year award.
